A compelling new study from Worcester Polytechnic Institute—commissioned by the Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA)—reminds us that sustainability can start right in our driveways. The research highlights a powerful yet often overlooked way to reduce carbon emissions and energy use: choosing recycled auto parts.

At Wilbert’s Premium Auto Parts, we’re proud to be at the forefront of this eco-conscious shift. For decades, we’ve understood that vehicles are among the most recyclable consumer products, and we’ve made it our mission to ensure that high-quality, recycled OEM parts are accessible, affordable, and environmentally responsible.

The Carbon Case for Recycled Auto Parts

The study makes a clear case: using recycled parts dramatically cuts carbon emissions compared to using newly manufactured components. For example, reusing a Toyota Camry engine can save 710.82 kilograms of CO₂ emissions—equivalent to the carbon captured by 11 tree seedlings grown for a decade or the energy needed to charge more than 44,000 smartphones.

Beyond just engines, the research examined 30 different auto parts across sedans, SUVs, and trucks and found consistent energy and emissions savings for every recycled component. Manufacturing a new Camry engine, for instance, consumes 1,615.49 kWh of energy, a burden entirely avoided by choosing a recycled one.

Wilbert’s Commitment to Greener Roads

At Wilbert’s Premium Auto Parts, we align our operations with the very principles this study promotes. Our advanced recycling processes prioritize sustainability at every step—from efficient part removal to rigorous quality checks that ensure reliability without compromising the planet.

We believe in giving every vehicle part a second life, significantly reducing the demand for energy-intensive mining and manufacturing of new metals like steel and aluminum. Our contributions not only divert waste from landfills but also directly support global efforts toward carbon neutrality.

Empowering Consumers with Sustainable Choices

One of the most exciting implications of the WPI study is its emphasis on consumer empowerment. Providing environmental data at the point of sale enables drivers to make more informed decisions—balancing cost-effectiveness with ecological impact.

Wilbert’s is actively developing initiatives to highlight the carbon savings of our parts, giving customers a clearer understanding of their role in building a more sustainable future with every repair or replacement they make.

A Greener Future, One Car at a Time

The findings from this study reinforce what we at Wilbert’s Premium Auto Parts have long known: the key to meaningful environmental change lies in everyday choices. By choosing recycled parts, consumers contribute to reducing global emissions, preserving natural resources, and supporting local economies.

We encourage all vehicle owners to think beyond the bin—and consider the real, measurable impact of using recycled auto parts. At Wilbert’s, we’re here to make that choice easier, smarter, and more sustainable than ever.

We are excited to share some important news! Wilbert’s has recently signed an agreement to acquire East Park Auto Recycling, a PRP NE (Premium Recycled Parts of the Northeast) partner business that, like us, is family-owned and operated. Our relationship with them has been invaluable, and we’re thrilled to take this step forward together. This only strengthens our commitment to growth and excellence. We look forward to fostering even stronger collaboration and innovation as we continue to work closely together on a daily basis. They have built a legacy, like Wilbert’s, of quality, community and passionate service with an incredible team at their location in Hyde Park, NY.

East Park Auto Recycling is a family owned and operated recycling business established in 1967. Jack and Pat Seidler have grown the business into the modern automotive recycling business it is today. In the past they specialized in Honda and Acura Parts, but now deal in all makes and models. Thank you for your loyalty! We will continue to grow and achieve great things in the future with your support.

Aaron Wilbert of Wilbert’s Premium Auto Parts Earns Champion for Public Education Recognition https://www.wilberts.com/premium-auto-parts/news/aaron-wilbert-of-wilberts-premium-auto-parts-earns-champion-for-public-education-recognition/ Fri, 12 May 2023 15:56:06 +0000 https://www.wilberts.com/premium-auto-parts/?p=32

A Community Together (ACT) for Education is an unprecedented initiative by public schools in the Monroe 1 and Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES districts, RCSD, area businesses, and community members. Their mission is to deliver positive messaging about local school districts and encourage community support of public education. Every year, ACT for Education recognizes local businesses, organizations and leaders who serve as exceptional supporters of surrounding public schools and students. This year, Aaron Wilbert, General Manager of Wilbert’s Premium Auto Parts of Ontario, was nominated by Monroe 1 BOCES as a Community Champion of Public Education. Dan White, Mike Ehret, Joe Alati, Stephanie Robusto, and Kim McCluski spoke on why he was being honored. “Aaron Wilbert of Wilbert’s was a student in Joseph Alati’s Collision Repair class at Eastern Monroe Career Center. Mr. Alati says Aaron and his family run an amazing, successful and growing business. Aaron never stops advocating for and supporting the Collision Repair program. Wilbert’s is also known for its community outreach and explaining the importance of community involvement to students. The partnership with Wilbert’s actually goes back decades. Aaron’s grandfather, who founded Wilbert’s, used to do business with Mr. Alati’s grandfather. Now, there’s an annual field trip to Wilbert’s 38-acre recycling yard in Williamson that’s become an important part of the curriculum. After a thorough tour of the buildings and grounds, students pick out their own car door to take back to class. The program doesn’t get charged a dime. If Mr. Alati’s students are able to strip the paint off, fix damaged areas, repaint, take the dozens of parts out of the door and put them all back in correctly, they will be well on their way to a career in collision repair. I think it’s safe to say that the Wilbert family’s support of EMCC students will continue for generations to come, thanks to Champions like Aaron.” Aaron and Tyler Petrie, General Manager of Wilbert’s U-Pull It of Williamson, attended the ACT for Education ceremony and not only toured the BOCES facility, but talked to students about the programs they were in. They recently received letters from all of the students in Mr. Alati’s class describing their favorite parts of the Wilbert’s facility tours, as well as thanking them for the opportunity to see the businesses’ behind-the-scenes operations. Wilbert’s will continue to be involved in this initiative for years to come.

All participants met for breakfast afterward to celebrate their hard work and dedication to keeping our community clean and safe. In addition to this event, our U-Pull It locations offered free recycling of tires and car batteries all day on Earth Day. Wilbert’s Premium Auto Parts Earns Auto Recycling’s Elite Certifications https://www.wilberts.com/premium-auto-parts/news/wilberts-premium-auto-parts-earns-auto-recyclings-elite-certifications/ Mon, 17 Apr 2023 17:10:00 +0000 https://www.wilberts.com/premium-auto-parts/?p=72

The Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA) proudly announces that Wilbert’s Premium Auto Parts has met all requirements necessary and has earned the Association’s Certified Automotive Recycler (CAR) certification and has also taken the next step to become Gold Seal certified.

ARA members can earn the CAR designation only after completing specific criteria for general business practices, safety and environmental compliance. Earning the CAR designation is a lengthy process often requiring significant time, documentation, and employee training. Members receive their CAR certification only following extensive written and photographic documentation. CAR certification reflects an automotive recycler’s total commitment to environmental protection and the operation of a professional, progressive auto recycling facility. Such environmental commitments include participation in the National Mercury Switch Removal Program, Storm Water Pollution Prevention and specialized training for handling hazardous materials. Federal, state and local regulatory agencies increasingly recognize CAR as an indicator of an auto recycler’s commitment to maintaining compliance with environmental and safety regulations. The CAR requirements set by ARA often exceed the requirements established by government agencies.

In addition, Wilbert’s has earned the Gold Seal certification for superior customer service. Participation in the Gold Seal program requires that the certified facility utilize industry standards for parts grading and provide written warranties on specific parts. Gold Seal certified members must also give the customer an optional way to provide customer feedback from their transaction. Gold Seal members are rated “Best in Class” for superior service and may earn this certification only after completing the initial CAR certification for environmental compliance and general business and safety practices.

ARA recognizes Wilbert’s as one of the automotive recycling industry’s top recycling facilities. Since 1943, the Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA) represents an industry dedicated to the efficient removal and reuse of “green” ROE- Recycled Original Equipment® and the proper recycling of inoperable motor vehicles. ARA represents the interests of over 4,500 auto recycling facilities in the United States and seventeen other countries around the world. With programs such as the Certified Automotive Recycler Program (CAR), Green Recycled Parts, and other partnerships, ARA members continue to provide consumers with quality, low-cost alternatives for vehicle replacement parts, while preserving our environment for a “green” tomorrow.

Wilbert’s Family Enterprises is happy to announce our acquisition of Action Auto Parts on December 30th, 2022!

Action Auto Parts, now Wilbert’s Premium Auto Parts of Rochester, is located in the City of Rochester on West Henrietta Rd. They carried a large selection of late model parts. This acquisition brings another location to our family of businesses which currently consists of two full service yards in Webster and Ontario, three self serve yards in Williamson, Bath, and Buffalo, a Tire and Wheel center in Ontario and, last but not least, a Christmas Tree Farm in Webster.

As we look to Wilbert-ize this facility we will then make a determination for its future use. Right now, Wilbert’s is cleaning, organizing, and sorting current new and used inventory to insure order accuracy within our Premium Auto Parts network. This is a very high traffic location and offers us many different opportunities for use. We are excited and optimistic about this new endeavor and appreciate our loyal customer base for providing us with the means to expand our family-owned-and-operated business.

Volunteers from Wilbert’s Cook Meals for Ronald McDonald House Charities https://www.wilberts.com/premium-auto-parts/news/volunteers-from-wilberts-cook-meals-for-ronald-mcdonald-house-charities/ Thu, 22 Dec 2022 18:05:11 +0000 https://www.wilberts.com/premium-auto-parts/?p=98

Throughout the months of November and December, three teams compromised of employees from all of our Wilbert’s locations worked together to provide meals to families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Rochester. Ronald McDonald House Charities of Rochester provides a home-away-from-home to families while their children receive the medical care they need at the affiliated hospital. They are a non-profit organization whose mission is to create, find, and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children. They have helped families save over $504 million in hotel and meal expenses.

Our staff chose a meal to prepare, cooked it in the facility’s kitchen, then packaged it to be stored for the families living on-site. While we were honored to take part in this initiative, it was also a great team-building activity, as the groups were made up of several people from each facility who don’t always get to collaborate.

EMCC Students Tour Wilbert’s Facilities https://www.wilberts.com/premium-auto-parts/news/emcc-students-tour-wilberts-facilities/ Thu, 10 Nov 2022 17:52:25 +0000 https://www.wilberts.com/premium-auto-parts/?p=92

We welcomed students from the Collision Repair Technology program at Eastern Monroe Career Center in Fairport, NY for a tour of our Premium Auto Parts facility in Ontario as well as our U-Pull It yard in Williamson. These local kids learn to repair and refinish collision-damaged vehicles, including the fundamentals of metal straightening, MIG-welding, detailing, painting, refinishing, customizing, and working with plastic fillers. Students study writing collision estimates, managing customer paperwork, and tracking jobs all through interactive lessons. Safe work habits are a huge focus of the program as well as attention to detail and problem-solving skills. By visiting our facilities, the students are introduced to the automotive recycling process and see the real-life applications their skills could have in the future. At the end of the tour, we donated doors from vehicles in the yard that the class will use to practice repairing damage and painting. We’re excited to see this generation of students developing their knowledge of and working towards a career in the automotive industry. We are humbled to play a part in their education!
