Wilbert’s Yard Improvements and Expansion Updates

New yard configurations

Overview

Wilbert’s continues to invest heavily in improving the customer experience across all self-service yard locations. These enhancements are focused on increasing inventory availability, improving yard organization, accelerating vehicle rotation, and creating a cleaner, safer, and more efficient environment for customers and staff alike.

A major component of these efforts has been the use of inventory rotation and “re-comp” strategies. By analyzing customer demand and vehicle movement trends, we are able to place the right vehicles in the right sections of the yard. This ensures customers have access to the most popular and in-demand inventory while allowing each location to maintain a healthy rotation schedule.

At the same time, new inventory continues to be processed and distributed evenly throughout each yard section, helping maintain consistency and keeping fresh vehicles available for customers on a regular basis.

In addition to inventory improvements, all locations have benefited from extensive yard maintenance initiatives. Teams fully cleaned and updated yard rows, improving navigation and overall appearance. Damaged wheel stands were also inspected and replaced to improve safety and ensure vehicles remain properly supported.

Each location has also implemented site-specific improvements designed to better serve their customer base and maximize operational efficiency.

Rochester Location Improvements

The Rochester yard underwent several major operational and layout enhancements focused on improving inventory flow and customer accessibility.

One of the most significant updates involved resizing yard sections to ensure all categories rotate inventory at a sufficient rate, targeting approximately a 90-day turnover cycle. This adjustment helps keep inventory fresh while increasing the likelihood that customers will find usable parts quickly.

The Rochester team also eliminated the miscellaneous section, which had occupied valuable space while generating lower customer demand. Removing this section allowed the yard to dedicate additional space to more popular vehicle categories, improving both inventory selection and overall efficiency.

To further improve the customer experience, the yard layout itself was redesigned. The most frequently visited and highest-demand sections were repositioned closer to the retail doors, allowing customers faster access to popular inventory and reducing travel time throughout the yard.

In addition, the yard surface received extensive grading work. Stone was leveled and redistributed to address low areas where water tended to collect, improving drainage and creating a safer, more navigable environment throughout the property.

Buffalo Location Expansion

Wilbert’s Buffalo self-service yard has experienced tremendous growth since opening in early 2023. Serving Buffalo and Western New York, the facility has already helped thousands of customers keep their vehicles on the road through affordable recycled auto parts.

To better meet growing demand, the Buffalo yard has now been expanded with an additional 200 parts-packed vehicles, including cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs. This expansion allows Wilbert’s to offer an even larger inventory and creates greater opportunities for customers to locate the exact parts they need.

Whether customers are searching for tires and wheels, hoods and bumpers, engines, transmissions, or countless other components, Buffalo now provides one of the region’s largest and most diverse self-service inventories.

Operationally, the Buffalo location also made several important organizational improvements. The yard was separated into domestic and foreign vehicle sections, allowing inventory to rotate more flexibly and efficiently based on customer demand trends.

To accommodate increased foreign vehicle inventory, eight additional rows were added to the right side of the yard. These new rows significantly expand available space while helping maintain consistent vehicle turnover rates.

The location also improved customer navigation by installing highly visible numbered row signs throughout the yard, making it easier for visitors to locate inventory quickly and efficiently.

Today, Wilbert’s Buffalo stands as one of the largest, cleanest, greenest, and most advanced automotive recycling facilities in the region, now featuring over 1,300 vehicles available for self-service parts pulling.

Customers are also encouraged to download the Wilbert’s customer app to receive exclusive promotions, vehicle alerts, and additional features designed to enhance the overall yard experience.

Bath Location Improvements

The Bath location also completed several strategic yard improvements aimed at increasing inventory efficiency and improving customer navigation.

Like Rochester, Bath removed miscellaneous inventory sections that consumed valuable space while limiting overall inventory circulation. Eliminating these sections allowed the yard to dedicate more room to high-demand vehicle categories and maintain stronger inventory turnover.

The location also completed a full row renumbering project and installed visible numbered row signs throughout the yard. These updates make it significantly easier for customers to navigate the property and quickly locate the vehicles they are searching for.

Additionally, Bath reallocated more yard space toward its most popular inventory categories, ensuring customers have greater access to the vehicles and parts they need most often.

Continued Commitment to Improvement

Across all Wilbert’s self-service locations, these investments reflect an ongoing commitment to operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement.

By expanding inventory, improving organization, modernizing layouts, and maintaining cleaner and safer yards, Wilbert’s continues to strengthen its position as a leader in automotive recycling and self-service auto parts throughout New York and Western New York.
