Should I purchase new or used tires?

There are a few factors to take into consideration when deciding to purchase new or used tires. New tires often come with an array of warranty coverages, but at a higher cost. Used tires can be a safe and viable alternative that saves you money. It is important to consider tread depth and condition when buying a used tire. If tread wear is minimal and condition is good, a used tire can provide many miles of reliable driving. When you buy from a reputable tire provider, like Wilbert’s, you can rest assured that the quality of your tires is our priority.

Do you recommend running aluminum wheels in the winter?
Aluminum wheels are a good choice if you need a balance of performance, cost, and aesthetics. However, the presence of water and snow can cause the metal to oxidize. Add in salt or melting agents applied to icy roads and corrosion can occur. This can cause air leaks and other dangerous damage. Steel wheels offer more resistance to damage and are popular for winter driving, off-roading, and work vehicles. They are easier to maintain, but don’t offer as many spoke options as aluminum wheel types.
When should I switch to snow tires?
A good rule of thumb is to change to winter tires once temperatures consistently drop below 45°F. It is important to consider the temperature at the time of day you are generally driving. In New York State, studded tires are only allowed from October 16-April 30.
Do you provide scrap tires for boat docks, playgrounds, or holding down tarps?
Yes, we have them free of charge. Under our supervision you load and haul them. There is a minimum of 20 tires per load.
